Wee Reads: Squirrel Me Timbers by Louise Pigott

Ever since Finn was born, and even before then, we would read to him. We wanted to show him reading from an early age. Now he loves us to read the same books, over, and over, and over. But it is the sweetest thing, when he likes to pick out a book and climb into our laps.

What Finn Reads....
Squirrel Me TimbersSquirrel Me Timbers by Louise Piggot

Ahoy mateys! A young squirrel has always dreamed of sailing the seas as a pirate. So when he finds a treasure map, he can't believe his luck! An X marks the spot of 100,000 NUTS! Set sail for adventure with vibrant illustrations and imaginative rhyming text to discover how exciting a pirate's life can be!"

What Finn Thinks...
Do you like this book?
Yeah! Because the Squirrel is a pirate!!

What's your favorite part of the book?
When the squirrel found the nuts! Because they're circles and they're not flat!
And I love the pirate hat, I have a pirate hat! And the crocodile and the ghost fish with spikes are scary!

What do you think of the cover?
I love the squirrel with the pirate hat and the silly "sword"!

Do you want me to read it again?
Yeah, but next time.

What Momma Thinks...
This is a really cute and fun book. Sammy the squirrel believes he is a pirate and he finds a map to a buried treasure, but when he gets there, there is no treasure! He becomes so frustrated he kicks a tree and thousands of acorns fall down. Come to find out that many many years ago, his great grampa squirrel (I think it was his great grampa, it's been a bit since we read it) thought he was a pirate and hid a bunch of nuts! This book teaches all about imagination, adventure, and never giving up. The art is cute, and it was really fun to read out loud.
